Installing Your
Mallet Minder
FACTORY RECOMMENDED METHOD
First, make sure the surface of your drum shell is very clean and dry. Remove any adhesive residue from previous mallet holders. A clean rag dampened with a bit of mineral spirits removes most adhesives. It may take a lot of rubbing to get it all off. Make sure to completely dry the shell after that.
Before removing the paper backing from the Mallet Minder adhesive, practice positioning your Mallet Minder. Keep it centered between lugs and other hardware.
The Mallet Minder adhesive works best when the drum shell and Mallet Minder are at 70 degrees (Fahrenheit) or warmer. The longer your Mallet Minder is in place, the better it will stay put.
Carefully and slowly remove the paper backing from the adhesive on the Mallet Minder. You don't want to pull the adhesive away from the Mallet Minder!
Gently press the Mallet Minder into place. When you are satisfied with the position, press it firmly into place. Allow an hour or so for the adhesive to "cure" before using your new Mallet Minder
ALTERNATE METHODS
One drum corps bolts their Mallet Minders to their drums. They drilled two holes in the bottom of the Mallet Minder and two corresponding holes in the drum shell. Then, they used two 1/4" diameter bolts and some large diameter washers to hold the Mallet Minders to their drums.
Another drum line has adapted a rim-saver product to hold their Mallet Minders to their drums. This spring loaded rim-saver doubles as a bracket to hold the Mallet Minder in place while it also protects the rims of their drum!
