Alan March
Introduction to Cincinnati Police History
As a member of the Cincinnati Police Department for more than 30 years, and a founding member of the Greater Cincinnati Police Historical Society, Alan March developed a passion for the history of the CPD.
In 2007 author Christine Mersch asked the Greater Cincinnati Police Museum for help in researching her 128 page book, Cincinnati Police History. With 200 photographs and accompanying text, Mersch tells the story of one of the first professional police departments in the United States. The book is part of Arcadia Publishing's "Images of America" series.
Ms. Mersch asked Alan to write the introduction to her book. Alan's introduction outlines the development of the Cincinnati Police Department over two centuries. The introduction is a "pocket history" of the CPD, emphasizing how it has used technology and innovation to be a model police force for the United States.
